An aide to a 17-year-old college student was arrested for attempting to rape a Dirai-bound passenger bus from Sylhet in Sunamganj’s Dirai upazila. Sylhet PBI arrested him in the Burai Gao village of the Chhatak Police Station in Sunamganj.
The arrested aide was identified as Rashid Ahmed, 28. He is the son of Habib Ahmed from the village of Kamrangichar in Charmamahalla, union of Chhatak upazila.
Sylhet Police Superintendent PBI Khaleduzzaman said he was arrested in Burai Gao in Sunamganj’s Chhatak upazila in a raid Sunday night. He will be handed over to the Dirai Police Station.

Incidentally, the girl boarded a passenger bus (Sylhet J-110623) from Sylhet to Dirai on Saturday afternoon to get home from a relative’s home in Lamakazi. The bus was parked near Sujanagar village in Dirai Township at night when the bus driver and his assistant tried to rape the girl, as there were no other passengers in the car except the girl. Fearing for her life, the girl jumped off the bus and fell onto the road. Later, the villagers took him to Dirai Hospital in critical condition, but the doctor on duty sent him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The girl’s father filed a lawsuit against the bus driver and his assistant Sunday night.
