A seven-year-old girl died after being vaccinated against measles and rubella in Lohagara, Chittagong. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, a civil surgeon from Chittagong, went to the scene after receiving the news.
The incident took place on Sunday morning (December 26) at President Shamshu’s home in West Kalauzan Sikder Para de la upazila.
The deceased was identified as Nawrat Hanif. She is the daughter of expatriate Mohammad Hanif Chowdhury Shimul.
Relatives of the deceased child claim that the child died 20 minutes after being vaccinated by a health assistant.
The incident spread panic throughout the area. The locals blocked the health workers.
Expat Shimul, the father of the deceased boy, said he went to the vaccination center with the Nawrat boy around 10 a.m. Sunday. At that time, the health aide gave the child a vaccine without a medical check-up.
He added that shortly after he was brought home from the vaccination, baby Nawrat said he was feeling unwell. At that moment his face turned red. He died before being taken to hospital after foaming at the mouth.
Chittagong Divisional Health Officer. Hasan Shahriar told Jago News: ‘We have heard about the incident. The Civil Surgeon himself is on the scene. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The next decision will be made after the investigation.
