The president of the Central BCL, Al Nahyan Khan Joy, and the general secretary, writer Bhattacharya, called an emergency meeting on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding. There was an uproar over the judgment of the attack on the junior leader by the two senior leaders.
The incident took place at an emergency meeting at the BCL headquarters on Sunday (December 26). Several central leaders present at the meeting confirmed the information.
According to BCL sources, at one stage of the meeting, BCL Vice President Sohan Khan Rokeya called for exemplary organizational measures against those involved in the attack on Falguni Das Tanvir, BCL’s Deputy Secretary General. Shams-e-Noman, Deputy General Secretary of the Chhatra League, who was present at the time, had a discussion with Sohan Khan while speaking on behalf of the accused Benazir Hossain Nishi. In this he fell before the cannon of the other leaders present. At this point a tense situation arose in the meeting. Another defendant in the attack was Jiasmin Shanta, general secretary of the university’s Shamsun Nahar Hall Chhatra League.
Several BCL leaders, who did not want to be named, said that Bhattacharya, the BCL general secretary, had taken charge of the tense situation and said in his speech that the attack on Tanvir was truly reprehensible and disorganized. He calmed the situation saying that if Tanvi recovers, he will solve the problem by sitting next to the victims and the accused.
Falguni Das Tanvi, Deputy Secretary General of the Law School of Dhaka University and Rokeya Hall BCL in the Bangabandhu Tower area, was allegedly beaten at midnight on December 22 for internal reasons. The beaten leader alleged that her mobile phone was also stolen. However, the two accused leaders claimed that they had “ruled” it.
It is known that the topic of discussion at today’s meeting was the founding anniversary program of the Chhatra League on January 4, filling the vacancy of the Chhatra League central committee, attack on Tanvir, distribution of district responsibilities.
According to sources at the meeting, the vacancy will be filled after speaking with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before January 4. At the meeting, it was decided to make this year’s founding anniversary ceremony practically limited. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join the program via video conference. The event is scheduled to take place at the Engineering Institute of the capital.
When asked about the general situation, the president of the Chhatra League, Al Nahyan Khan, called Joy, but did not respond.
However, general secretary and writer Bhattacharya told the Bengali Tribune: “Internal issues were discussed at the meeting. The founding anniversary ceremony will be limited this time. The Prime Minister will join the event via video conference.
