He said the decision has been made to import rice privately. However, care must be taken so that farmers are not harmed. It has started buying rice from farmers. The price set by the government is Rs 1,040 per ounce. Even today, rice is sold outdoors at a price of 1,200 taka per quintal. When the price of rice falls, we cry for the farmers. Even if the price of rice goes up again, I cry.

“We have privately allowed the importation of rice with a 25 percent tariff,” the Food Secretary told a press conference. It will be decided who can import how much of it. But no more can be imported. Farmers will be deprived again.

By the way, the price of rice has not fallen, but has risen, despite the rise in rice aman in the second major rice season. On Wednesday, the government signed an agreement with India to import 1.5 thousand rupees tonnes of rice to reduce the price by increasing the supply of rice. In that case, the price of Indian rice will be Rs 33 to Rs 35 per kg.

Meanwhile, all kinds of rice continued to sell at high prices on the capital market until Sunday. People of all classes are suffering from this. Miniket and Nazirshail were sold for Tk 72 to Tk 8 per kg in the capital’s retail market that day. BR28 rice has been sold for a maximum of Rs 60. Among coarse rice, rice of the gold variety has been sold at Rs 48-51 per kg.

According to the market price of the publicly traded Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), secondary rice is now selling at around 47 percent, medium rice at 23 percent and fine rice at 18 percent higher. than in the same period last year.
