The driver and his accomplices attempted to rape a university student on a moving bus on the road from Sylhet to Dirai in Sunamganj. At that moment, the university student jumped out of the bus window in a panic and fell on the road and was seriously injured.
The incident took place after Saturday night. The injured student is a resident of the municipal city of Dirai and a class XII student from a local university. The locals rescued the girl and admitted her to the hospital.
According to local and police sources, a local bus leaving Sylhet for Dirai arrived in the Karnagaon area in Dirai at 5.30pm on Saturday. All the bus passengers got off there. The college student was the only passenger on the bus at the time. Finding her alone, the assistant tried to rape her.
The student jumped out of the bus window to avoid being raped and fell into a nearby ditch, injuring her head and legs. Subsequently, the people of the area heard their screams and the driver and the assistant fled. The locals rescued him and admitted him to the Dirai Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. After receiving the news, the police went to the scene, took the bus and took him to the police station.
Meanwhile, locals took to the streets Saturday night to protest the attempted rape of a college student and demanded the immediate arrest of the bus driver.
Dr. Bidyut Ranjan Talukder, a medical officer at the Dirai Upazila Health Complex, said the girl was sent to Sylhet with first aid because her condition was serious.
The Dirai police chief said. Asharful Islam said the bus was seized and taken to the police station. Police are investigating the incident. Since the bus has been identified, the driver and attendant will also be quickly identified and arrested.
