The murder mystery of eight-year-old Mahi Umme Tabachum in Dhunte de Bogra has been revealed. She was strangled to death after being gang-raped to avenge a dispute with her father.
They also cut off a finger to divide the murder into a different sector. Four friends, including the arrested college student, have confessed to the police. Police Superintendent Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said this at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
Those arrested are Bappi Ahmed, 22, son of Tozammel Haque from Nasratpur village in Choukibari union of Dhunat upazila from Bogra, second-year student of the local GMC Degree College, Kamal Pasha, 35, son of Dalil Uddin from the same village, Shamim Reza, 22, son of Sanwar Hossain and bricklayer Shamim Reza, 22. Son of Mr. Ali, painter Lablu Sheikh (21).
Dhunat OC Kripa Sindhu Bala Police Station and local sources said that Belal Hossain Khokon from Nasratpur village and his wife Maryam Daisy worked in a clothing factory in Dhaka. His daughter Mahi Umme Tabachum was a second-class student at the Panchthupi-Nasratpur local government primary school from her grandfather Abdus Sabur’s home.
A two-day Tafsirul Quran mahfil was organized at the Jannatul Ferdous cemetery in the village. The cemetery committee organized the meeting without the permission of the administration. On the night of December 14, Shishu Tabachum went with his grandfather and uncle to hear the comment of the first day. At around 10 p.m., he went to the store next to the stage to buy chips and disappeared. Her naked body was found in a bamboo bush near the stage around 1 am.
Tabachum had a family dispute with the arrested college student Bappi Ahmed. Bappi, who is in charge of volunteering in Tafsir, sees the boy and plans to get revenge. He was tempted to buy walnuts and took Tabachum to the local Haji Kazem Jubeda Technical College.
There, Bappi raped the boy in turn by his three friends Kamal Pasha, Shamim Reza and Lablu Sheikh. Excessive bleeding makes the baby numb. At that moment Bappi strangled him. He also cut off a finger with another cutter to show that he had been bitten by an animal.
He then carried the body onto his shoulder and tossed it onto the bamboo bush near the stage. The police recovered the body and sent it to the Bogra Shajimek Hospital morgue. He had bleeding from his genitals and bite marks on his chest and cheeks. Meanwhile, there was a backlash among the people for the rape and murder of the boy Mahi Tabachum.
Various programs were carried out in the village, including the human chain, to arrest the murderers and rapists. The day after the incident, the boy’s father, Belal Hossain Khokon, filed a lawsuit against the unidentified persons at the Dhunat Police Station under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act.
The Dhunat OC Kripa Sindhu Bala Police Station and Investigating Officer SI Ripon Mia said the investigation was started in light of the family dispute with Bappi. The suspect Bappi and his three friends were kept under observation. Shamim Reza was arrested for the first time at his home on Friday night. Bappi, Reza and Lablu were later arrested at their respective homes at their confession. At one point during the interrogation, the four confessed to raping and murdering the child Tabachum.
Meanwhile, relatives and villagers have been relieved when the mysterious rape and murder of Mahi Umme Tabachum has been revealed and the accused have been arrested.
