A meeting of the Nominating Board of People’s Representatives of the Local Government of the Awami League of Bangladesh was held on Saturday.
At the meeting held in Ganobhaban, the Prime Minister’s official residence in the afternoon, the candidates for 64 municipal elections were finalized in the third phase.
President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting of the Awami League’s Appointment Board of People’s Representatives of the Local Government. At that time, representatives of the Nominating Board were present, according to a report by the BSS news agency.
In the third phase, elections will be held in four municipalities in the Rangpur division, 12 in the Rajshahi division, nine in the Khulna division, eight in the Barisal division, 12 in the Dhaka division, eight in the Mymensingh division, three in the Sylhet division and eight in the Chittagong division.
Previously, the ruling Awami League had announced candidates in 25 municipalities in the first phase and 61 in the second phase.
The third phase of 84 municipal elections will take place on January 30. Therefore, the Awami League began distributing forms to the party’s candidates as of December 20. The sale and submission of forms continued until last Thursday at the political office of party chairwoman Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi.
A total of 352 people have purchased nomination forms from the Awami League for the office of mayor. Of these, the party has finalized party candidates in 64 municipalities of the third phase. The last date for the submission of nomination papers in these municipalities is December 31. The election will be held from 8 am to 4 pm. Voting will be by ballot in each center. The nomination works will be selected on January 3 of next year. Withdrawal of candidacy on January 10.
The municipalities to be voted on in the third phase are: Gobindaganj de Gaibandha; Dhamairhat and Naogaon Sadar from Naogaon; Gopalganj in Sylhet; Dhunat, Gabtali, Shibganj, Nandigram and Kahalu de Bogra; Mundumala of Rajshahi; Moulvibazar Sadar; Kotchandpur in Jhenaidah; Morelganj in Bagerhat; Chauddagram, Laksam and Baruda de Comilla; Hajiganj in Chandpur; Feni Sadar; Munshiganj Sadar; Nakla of Sherpur; Singra of Natore; Kesharhat in Rajshahi; Chuadanga Darshan; Jhalakathi Nalchiti; Durgapur in Netrokona; Monirampur in Jessore; Hatia and Chaumuhani from Noakhali; Ramganj in Laxmipur; Katiadi from Kishoreganj; Tungipara in Gopalganj; Naria, Jajira and Vedharganj from Shariatpur; Barguna Sadar and Patharghata; Borhanuddin and Daulatkhan from Bhola; Nalitabari in Sherpur; Ulipur in Kurigram; Hakimpur in Dinajpur; Rahanpur in Chapainawabganj; Narail Sadar; Kalaroa in Satkhira; Pangsha of the palace; Swarupkathi of Pirojpur; Gournadi and Mehendiganj from Barisal; Sarishabari in Jamalpur; Gauripur, Ishwarganj, Bhaluka and Trishal in Mymensingh; Zakiganj in Sylhet; Harinakundu in Jhenaidah; Tangail Sadar, Bhunapur, Sakhipur, Madhupur and Mirzapur; Jaldhaka from Nilphamari; Pabna Sadar; Paikgachha in Khulna and Kalia in Narail.
