The Boxing Day event between hosts Australia and India begins on Saturday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Australia captain Tim Payne won the toss and chose to hit.

The Australian did not start the innings well. They lost 3 wickets by just 36 runs on the scoreboard. Starter Matthew Wade came back with 30 runs, but Joe Burns and Test number one Steve Smith returned to the locker room before opening the scoring.
