A police SI and a police officer have been charged with embezzling Tk 280,000 from a man who came from Gazipur to Sitakunda in Chittagong to buy a van.
The two policemen were arrested after a case was registered at the Sitakundu Police Station.
They are: SI Saiful Alam and Officer Saiful Islam from the Sitakundu Police Station.
In addition, three police sources have been charged in the case. They are residents of Sitakunda Township, Md. Ripon (35), Maryland Harun (30) and Raju (26).
The name of the victim is Abu Jafar (43). He is the son of Nazrul Islam, a temporary resident of the Gachha Police Station in Gazipur District.
According to sources, Abu Zafar came to Sitakunda from Gazipur on December 20 to buy a van. He bought his tickets at the municipality bus stop and waited at the Shyamoli counter to return home.
Meanwhile, three police sources began threatening him as a yaba trader.

Later, Abu Jafar did not get yaba from him and they took him to different places by car. At one point, Rs 260,000 was stolen from him and handed over in a car in Dhaka for fear of death.
But instead of going to Dhaka, Abu Jafar went to the Sitakunda Police Station and reported on the matter. The Chittagong police superintendent also learned of the incident, the additional SP from Sitakundu Circle said. Ashraful instructed Karim.
When Ashraful Karim informed the SP about the incident, he ordered the arrest of the two policemen.
Meanwhile, the two accused police officers fled after the case. After surrendering at the police station on Thursday, they were arrested and sent to the Chittagong court.
Of the other three defendants in the case, Source Ripon was arrested but police have yet to arrest the other two.
