The UK and the European Union (EU) agreed to a post-Brexit trade deal after months of disagreements. A meeting between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and EU President Ursula von der Leyen decided to reach a final agreement on Thursday. The news outlet CNN reported this news.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson posted a lush photo of himself on Twitter Thursday afternoon, writing: “The deal is done.”
“It’s a very good deal for all of Europe,” Johnson said shortly after the announcement. He added: ‘We have regained control of our law and destiny.
Johnson claimed that the UK had won a £ 693 billion “Canada-style” trade deal and that the fisheries deal was the main topic of discussion. The UK has regained full control of its waters.
“We have got back our money, our borders, our laws, our trade and our right to fish,” the UK government said.
EU President Ursula von der Leyen has agreed that the UK has a fair and balanced trade deal after Brexit.
Following the completion of the post-Brexit trade deal, the EU leader, the European Parliament and the British government will have to ratify the deal on their own initiative.
The legal language of the agreement will first be translated, reviewed and ratified by the 27 member states of the European Union, whose leaders have welcomed the agreement.
