An unidentified woman has escaped from mother Shima Begum’s lap with her two-month-old daughter Taiba. The incident took place at the Gurudaspur Upazila Health Complex around 10:30 am on Wednesday. Police are learning of the incident and are working to rescue the boy.

The victim Shima Begum is the wife of Taufiz Mollah from the village of Mashinda Majhpara in the Mashinda union of Gurudaspur upazila of Natore.

The boy’s mother, Shima Begum, said she went with the boy to the Upazila Health Complex on Wednesday morning to get him vaccinated against measles. He met an unknown woman wearing a burqa on the ground floor of the old hospital building. Conversations were being held between them on the basis of identity. At one point, the woman took the child in her arms. At that time, he went to the hospital’s outpatient department to take medicine. When he returned, he did not find the woman or her baby.

Citing CCTV footage from the incident, Gurudaspur Police Station Deputy Inspector (Investigation) Monirul Islam said that mother Shima Begum was crying loudly in the hospital premises after losing the child. CCTV footage from the hospital showed the unidentified woman fleeing with the baby at 10:22 a.m. The woman hurriedly left the hospital premises in 5 minutes.

Mozahidul Islam, a health and family planning officer at Gurudaspur Upazila Health Complex, said he had performed a C-section on the woman at the hospital a couple of months ago. Then the girl named Taiba was born.

Said the Gurudaspur Police Officer in Charge (OC). Abdur Razzak said that the victim Shima Begum has two more children named Maruf (10) and Mahmuda (8). The woman who fled with baby Taiba was seen on the hospital’s CCTV but her identity could not be confirmed. The police are working to rescue the boy.
