The University Scholarship Commission (UGC) on Wednesday sought the help of the Ministry of Education and stakeholders to stop the ‘illegal activities’ of the ‘nonexistent’ institution, saying there was no government-sanctioned university in the name.
The matter came to the attention of the UGC after an ad was published in the newspaper stating that people were being recruited for various positions at the university.
A non-refundable bank draft of Rs 500 is requested along with the request for each post in the notification.
Professor Biswajit Chanda, a member in charge of UGC’s private university department, told bdnews24.com: “The commission is not aware of the existence of any educational institution called Bangabandhu International University. No project proposal called University was sent to UGC. Bangabandhu International.
“The UGC has sought the help of the Ministry of Education and stakeholders to stop the illegal activities of this non-existent organization. A public notice will be issued soon.”
The entrepreneur and founder of the university, vice-chancellor (acting), professor. The notification was recently published in the name of ABM Sharifuzzaman Shah in the national daily. There is talk of appointing people to various positions, including vice chancellor and teachers.
A statement from the UGC said the university had used the name of Rabia Alim, a deputy from the reserved seat, as the founding president of its board of directors.
“The UGC has presented several issues, including the news of the university’s first stone laying and the hiring notice. The UGC is advising students, teachers, parents and job applicants to be vigilant about these universities. “
Students and parents are encouraged to visit the list of approved universities and programs posted on the UGC website in case of need, according to the statement.
The commission said that under the Private Universities Law, the president appoints vice-chancellors, vice-chancellors and treasurers of each private university for a period of four years.
“Therefore, if any university authority appoints someone to these positions, it will be completely against the law. Furthermore, certificates issued by various programs of private universities without a rector will also be considered invalid.
