The ruling Awami League is in danger from the party’s ‘rogue’ candidates for mayor in this year’s municipal elections. Especially among the rebels who have no party position, they suffer the most. The central political leaders of the Awami League tried to put the rebels in party positions on the stock exchange by announcing their expulsion from the party. But the party cannot take any organizational measures against those who have no office in the party. As a result, the rebels will be the ‘thorn in the throat’ of the Awami League in at least 30 municipalities in the first and second rounds of the municipal elections.

Some of the central leaders in charge of organizing the Awami League into eight divisions said they were trying to run rogue candidates. This effort will continue until the vote. However, in the past, many rebel candidates were expelled and returned to positions in the party, but many did not want to heed the threat of organizational measures. In other places, local legislators support the rebel candidates. Somewhere, the rebels are former leaders of the affiliated organization of the Awami League, Juba League, Swechchhasebak League or Chhatra League. As a result, no organizational measures will be taken against them.

It is known that in the first round of the municipal elections, at least 10 rebel candidates from the Awami League were left for the office of mayor. On the last day of submission of the nomination papers for the second phase of the elections, several Awami League candidates submitted nomination papers in at least two dozen municipalities. Many of these rebellious candidates do not hold positions in any party. Again, many are less important members of a committee.

Current Mayor Begum Ashanur Biswas has been nominated by the Awami League in the Belkuchi Municipality of Sirajganj. Sajjadul Haque Reza, a former convener of the Belkuchi Juba League, has become a rogue candidate here. Reza was the first in the grassroots vote in the Awami League candidate nomination process.

Professor Akkas Ali has been nominated by the Awami League in the Birampur Municipality of Dinajpur. The rebel candidates here are the current mayor Liaquat Ali Sarkar Tutul and the organizing secretary of the Birampur Upazila Awami League, Mosfiqur Rahim. The current mayor Liaquat is a member of the Birampur Upazila Awami League. As a result, the threat to take organizational measures is not taken seriously.

Former Puthia Chhatra League Secretary General Shariful Islam Tipu has become a rebel candidate in Puthia Township in Rajshahi. He does not currently hold any position in the Awami League. As a result, the Awami League has been unable to take organizational action against him.

The incumbent mayor and deputy general secretary of the Chatmohar Awami League, Mirza Rezaul Karim Dulal, has become the rebel candidate in Chatmohar of Pabna. He was expelled from the party as a rebel candidate in the last elections. But he returned to office after being elected mayor. This time he has returned to be a rebel candidate.

Rebel candidates in Shayestaganj Municipality of Habiganj are Salek Mia, president and current mayor of the municipal Awami League, Fazal Uddin Talukder, convener of the Upazila Juba League, and Abul Kalam Shiplu, leader of the Awami League. Among them, there are no party positions in Shiplu and the Awami League cannot take organizational action against them, as Fazal Uddin is the leader of the Juba League.

The current mayor, Alhaj Abdul Gani, is the Awami League candidate for the position of mayor in Dhaka’s Savar Township. Akhtaruzzaman Kuti Mollah has submitted his nomination papers as an independent candidate. He was president of the Dhaka District Chhatra League in 1975. After that, he stayed abroad for a long time and returned to the country. His brother Manik Mollah was a candidate for the Awami League. But Kuti Mollah has become an independent candidate since his brother was not nominated.

The leaders of the affiliated organization Juba League of the Awami League and the fraternal organization Chhatra League have become independent candidates in various municipalities. Mahmudul Hasan Mohsin, Secretary General of the Betagi Juba League, has become an independent candidate in Betagi de Barguna. Awami League President Shahiduzzaman Shahid has been nominated by the Awami League in Rajshahi’s Arani Township. Ribon Ahmed Bappi, president of the Arani Municipal Chhatra League, has become an independent candidate here. Later, Bappi’s nomination was withdrawn after verification and selection. The Gurudaspur Awami League of Natore has appointed General Secretary of the Gurudaspur Awami League. Shahnewaz Ali. The independent candidates here are Atiyar Rahman Bandhan, president of the Gurudaspur Chhatra League and Abdus Salam Rony, leader of the Chhatra League.

If you want to meet the member of the electoral nominating board and the minister of agriculture from the local government people’s representative of the Awami League. Abdur Razzak said: ‘I am not nominating those who were rogue candidates last time. We are in a difficult position in this regard. This time, organizing measures will also be taken against those who are turning into rogue candidates. When asked about the lack of strict organizational measures against the rebels in the past, Abdur Razzak said: “The president of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, wants to form a party with everyone. He forgave her most of the time. The League Awami is a multi-class party in a third world country, we have to manage the team accepting various realities.

Awami League Deputy General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim said: “We are in a difficult position to maintain organizational discipline. Until the day before the vote, we will try to present the rebel candidates. The expulsion of those who are in the ranks of the party is a reaction in the area. But if organizational measures are taken against those who are not in office, there is no answer. We are trying to coordinate between the candidates considering this real situation.

Organizing Secretary of the Awami League, Abu Saeed Al Mahmoud Swapan, said: “If any of the rebels do not hold any position on the committee, if they are a senior member, they will also be expelled from there.” And if someone is a supporter, not in any organizational position, then there is no possibility of acting against him.
