The village house of former Mohammadpur Habibur councilor Rahman Mizan is Jhalokati. He came to Dhaka in 1973. He later became involved in various crimes in the Mohammadpur area. Police arrested Habibur as he fled. His men used to steal manhole covers. In 1965, Mizan occupied an abandoned house of Pakistanis trapped in Mohammadpur. In 1994 he was elected councilor. Habibur is known as the godfather of drug trafficking. He has earned Rs 20 crore illegally. He became the owner of 15 floors. He has three floors in his wife’s name.
This information was highlighted in the charge sheet filed against Habibur Rahman in the money laundering case. Recently, the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a charge sheet against Habibur Rahman in the Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate (CMM) court.
CID Inspector SM Miraj Al Mahmood, who is investigating the case, told Prothom Alo that indictments have been filed against Habibur Rahman in the money laundering case based on documentary information from various agencies. Habibur Rahman illegally became the owner of Rs 20 crore.
Habibur Rahman was arrested on October 11 of last year. He is currently in jail.
