The Chittagong District Council has erected this monument at the foot of Chandranath Hill in Sitakunda upazila to preserve the memory of the joint heroism of the Bangladesh freedom fighters and the allied forces of India in the 1971 liberation war.
Doraiswamy said that India’s friendship with Bangladesh is not just about history, culture and geography. The basis of this relationship has been established by “blood and sacrifice.”
“We can never forget the relationship between sacrifice and blood. This relationship created through the sacrifice of life will never be broken. As Padma-Jamuna flows, so will Bangladesh-India relationships.
The High Commissioner of India said: “I am proud. Freedom fighters and Indian soldiers gave their lives together in the great liberation war. This monument is a symbol of respect and passion for the heroic Bangladeshi freedom fighters and Indian warriors. Not only the heroic warriors of Bangladesh but also the Indian soldiers have been honored at this monument.
“My father was a fighter pilot in the 1971 War of Liberation. That is why I am personally proud today.”
Vikram Doraiswamy’s father, Chandra Shekhar Doraiswamy, fought on the Western Front in 1971 as a squad leader in the Indian Air Force. He retired in 1993 as an Air Vice Marshal.
Paying tribute to the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the High Commissioner of India said: “Bangabandhu is another name for the conscience of Bangladesh. This is the essence of Bangladesh and it must be maintained. It is the responsibility of the people of Bangladesh to maintain it. ”
Former engineer minister Mosharraf Hossain, a member of the Awami League presidium, recalled those days of the liberation war. He was the deputy commander of Sector 1 of the War of Liberation.
Musharraf said: “It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to erect this monument. I also said in the last ministry meeting, we had 11 sectors, we had 11 commanders. Major Rafiq Saheb was the commander of Sector No.1. I was the commander of the subsector. I know what happened here during the liberation war.
“I told them to take the initiative to protect their memory. You take the initiative to protect the mass graves. We are still alive, we will identify the places where we fight.”
Highlighting India’s cooperation in the liberation war, the leader of the Awami League said: “The people of Bangladesh jumped into the great liberation war. He patiently gave his life. But a country cannot be liberated solely by guerrilla warfare.
“On December 3, just 13 days after the freedom fighters and the Indian allies began the war together, I was able to liberate the country by defeating one of the world’s armies. There is no precedent in the history of the world. to achieve independence in such a short time. This was possible only thanks to the cooperation of the Indian forces. “
Speaking on the occasion, MA Salam, Chairman of the Chittagong District Council, said that many people did not know that there was a glorious history of Bangladeshi freedom fighters and Allied Forces of India in Sitakunda. After obtaining information from the freedom fighters, the initiative was taken to build this monument.
“The new generation will see it and patriotism will awaken in them. They will understand how much our ancestors have sacrificed for the country. “
Sitakunda MP Didarul Alam and Chittagong District Council Executive Director Shabbir Iqbal gave welcoming speeches on the occasion.

In response to a question from journalists, the Indian High Commissioner said that the possibility of building an alternative road from the land port to Sonaipul, Kalapania, Semutang, Batnatali, Garitana and connecting Fatikchhari with the port of Chittagong would be explored.
On the occasion, the High Commissioner handed over an old copy of the Quran Sharif kept in India to Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari, President of the Bangladesh Tarikat Federation and deputy of Fatikchhari.
Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari told bdnews24.com: “This is one of the two ancient copies of the Quran brought to India by Sufi saints at the beginning of the spread of Islam. Thank you for gifting it to Maizbhandar Sharif.”
