Dhaka: The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has temporarily withdrawn the directive to shut down telecommunications value-added service (TVS) on the Robi and Banglalink networks.
After talks with two mobile phone operators on Tuesday (December 22) morning, the decision to shut down TVS was temporarily resumed, BTRC sources said.
TVS provides a variety of services including news alerts, welcome tunes, and videos. BTRC provides 182 registered TVS operators. Service providers and service recipients become frustrated with regular service after receiving instructions to stop it.
On Monday (December 21), BTRC ordered Robi and Banglaling to stop TVS for content providers. Following the instructions, Robi and Banglalink informed the content providers to stop the televisions starting at midnight on Monday.
Previously, the regulator had requested an explanation from Robi and Banglalink on November 12 for deducting money by launching a service without the knowledge of the client. During the investigation, instructions were given to stop the TVS service.
