Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is increasing the military budget for the ninth time in a row, given China’s growing military power. This time, the budget is allocated to advanced stealth fighters and anti-ship missiles.
According to international media reports, Japan’s Ministry of Defense will receive an allocation of 5.34 trillion yen (51.6 trillion pounds) in the fiscal year that begins in April. This budget is 1.1 percent more than last year. The bill is sure to pass as Prime Minister Sugar’s party has an overwhelming majority in parliament. In Yoshihide, Suga follows in the footsteps of his predecessor, Shinzo Abe. Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe provided the Japanese military with new planes, long-range missiles and aircraft carriers to counter potential enemies, including China.
Long-range anti-ship missiles will be built to protect the island of Okinawa in southwestern Japan. 30 crore 23 lakh dollars will be spent for this. Other major purchases include six Lockheed F-35 stealth fighters worth 62.7 million pounds. It also has two short takeoff and vertical landing fighters. The jets will be manufactured by Japan itself. After 30 years, the country will make airplanes again. The cost of this is estimated at £ 40 billion. Its construction will be completed in 2030.
The project will be implemented by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited with the support of Lockheed Martin Corporation, an American defense equipment manufacturer. A budget of £ 600 million is being allocated to Mitsubishi for this work. The Japanese Army gets £ 91.2 million to build two warships. These can be operated with fewer sailors than conventional warships. This will reduce the pressure on the Japanese navy. In addition, military training is also being considered. Source: Al Jazeera
