The 50 kilometer Euro Tunnel of the seabed, which connects the UK and France, has already been closed. The ferry terminal between Dover in the UK and Kale in France was also closed. Hundreds of freight trucks were stranded at the ferry terminal for a few kilometers ten days before the end of the EU’s free trade with the UK. About 60 per cent of plant products from EU countries to the UK are transported in this way.

A UK government spokesman expressed concern that the mutated coronavirus was 80 percent more contagious than the previous virus and was extremely difficult to control. As of yesterday, the virus was detected in 9 people outside the UK in Denmark and 1 person in Italy, the Netherlands and Australia.

Meanwhile, German Health Minister Jens Span told AFP news agency yesterday that European Union (EU) experts believe the existing vaccine against the new type of corona identified in the UK is effective. “As far as we know, the new type of crown has no effect on existing vaccines, which means that existing vaccines are effective in new types of crown,” said Jens Span, referring to discussions between EU experts. In this context, the German Health Minister was referring to the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine. The vaccine has already been introduced in several countries, including the UK.
