On Monday, they said the virus had been detected in the bodies of two people traveling from the UK to New South Wales, Australia. They are both in quarantine at the hotel.
Sydney, the capital of the state of New South Wales, has seen a sharp increase in the number of Kovid-19 infections and patients identified since last Wednesday. Sydney authorities say the disease is spreading from a new group.
Since Wednesday, 6 new patients have been identified there. The new group has been identified in the North Beaches area of Sydney and a total closure has been declared in the area, with more than 2.5 million residents under house arrest.
The rest have been instructed to avoid the area. Sydney has been isolated from the rest of Australia to prevent the spread of the disease.
However, New South Wales officials have confirmed that there is no connection between the two UK travelers and the new group.
UK researchers say the new strain of coronavirus is capable of spreading the disease 80 percent faster than the original virus.
Many countries have already closed their doors to the United Kingdom for fear that the new strain of the virus will spread. The new names on that list are India and Hong Kong. Both have suspended all their flights to the UK.
Not much is known about this new strain of the virus. The World Health Organization is trying to gather information on this new strain of the virus through “close contact” with UK officials.
UK Health Minister Matt O’Hancock has warned of a new strain of the virus, saying it is “out of control”. He urged everyone to abide by the strict four-level security measures imposed by the government.
Residents, especially in the capital London, most of south-east England and parts of eastern England, have been prohibited from leaving the area. The government’s plan to relax restrictions on social distance during the Christmas holidays in England has also been scrapped.
Among Asian countries, Japan and South Korea are closely monitoring whether new strains of the virus have spread to their respective countries. Both countries are quite successful in controlling Covid-19. But with the onset of winter there has been a resurgence of infections.
The infection is also increasing in Hong Kong, the Chinese-controlled Asian commercial city. On Monday, the Hong Kong administration announced the cancellation of all its flights to the UK as of December 22. And those who arrive before December 22 will have to stay in quarantine for three weeks instead of two.
India has canceled all its flights to the UK this year. The ban will take effect from next Wednesday. Before that, everyone who will come to the airport will have a covid test.
South Korea has already made it mandatory for everyone entering the country to undergo 14 days of quarantine and two coronavirus tests at the beginning and end of the quarantine. They are now reviewing separate measures for the UK.
In the last week, the number of daily identities in South Korea exceeded a thousand. Also on Sunday, 17 inmates and bodyguards were identified as Kovid-19 in a Seoul prison.
