Robi is giving 2031 crore rupees for the renewal of the wave

Robi is paying for the renewal of the 11.6 MHz wave received from Airtel after the merger in 2016. Airtel’s 2G license was valid until December 2020, Robi is renewing this wave.

On Sunday, Robi deposited Tk 458 million rupees with telecom regulator BTRC as the first installment for the renewal of the wave.

BTRC President Shyam Sundar Sikder told bdnews24.com: “The operator Robi has today deposited the first installment to renew its wave. The government is renewing the fixed price Robi Tarang.”

Robi’s regulatory and corporate director Shahed Alam said: “The government will have to pay US $ 239.6 million for the renewal of the wave, which is equal to Rs 2,031 crore in Bangladeshi currency.

“Rs 458 million Tk has been deposited with BTRC as the first installment for the renewal of the 11.8 MHz wave received from Airtel.”

Robi is being given the opportunity to pay this money in six installments over five years and this installment will be paid in 2025, Shahed Alam said.

Robi has the opportunity to renew the 11.6 MHz wave for 10 years.

BTRC last auctioned 4G and additional waves in 2016. At that time Grameenphone and Banglalink participated in the auction for 1,600 MHz band waves. Both parties allocated £ 31 million per MHz over 15 years.

A BTRC official said a committee was formed to seek the views of other price traders after the wave renewal request was submitted last August. Robi’s price is determined based on the opinion of all operators.

In 2016, the 1,600 MHz band was auctioned for ১৫ 31 million per MHz for a 15-year allocation. The official said the price has been set for Robi after calculating the allowance for 10 years.

After merging with Airtel as BTRC, Robi’s total wavelength is 36.4 MHz.

According to the 2019 financial report, Robi’s total assets are 16,198 crore taka. According to regulator BTRC, Robi had more than five million subscribers last November.
