The groom’s name is Naeem Sardar (22). He is the son of Anwar Sardar from Dehergati village in Babuganj upazila of Barisal district. The bride is Arju Akhter, 18, daughter of the late Mosharraf Hossain from the village of Balighona in Jhalokati.

Prosecutor Abdul Mannan Rasul said that Arju Akhter had filed a complaint with the Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children on 8 November alleging that he had been raped. The judge ordered the victim’s complaint to be registered as an FIR at the Jhalokati Police Station. When an FIR was registered under Section 9 (1) of the Abuse of Women and Children Act at the Jhalokati Police Station on November 12, Naeem’s father, the only defendant, Anwar Hossain, turned his son over to the Jhalokati Police Station on November 13. The investigating officer on the case, Deputy Inspector (SI) Nazmuzzaman, sent it to court showing his arrest. The court rejected Naeem’s request for bail and ordered that he be sent to jail.

During the bond hearing in the Vacation and Sessions District Court on Sunday, the defendant expressed interest in marrying the victim and the plaintiff accepted the proposal. Shahidullah ordered the marriage on the court premises with a five lakh rupee stamp. They were subsequently married on the premises of the court.

The court granted the defendant a bail of 20,000 taka after the hearing.

The boyfriend Naeem is an electrician by profession and the girlfriend Arju has studied until the tenth class. In early 2019, they met and fell in love through their mobile phones. On the day of the incident, that is, September 23, at 10 pm, Naeem called Arju’s mobile phone in the back garden and raped her against her will.
