Four students who were lost while hiking the remote Darianagar Hills in the Himchhari area of Cox’s Bazar have been rescued.
They were rescued with the help of the Bangladesh Air Force after receiving a call to the National Emergency Service 999.
They are Rafsan (25), Abhik (26), Mezbah (26) and Abrar (26). They are all residents of Cox’s Bazar Sadar.
This information was given in a press release from the police headquarters on Sunday.
It is said that four students came to visit us yesterday morning and got lost in the remote Darianagar Hills in the Himchhari area of Cox’s Bazar. They got stuck on the way to the inaccessible hill and got lost down the steep hill. They were scared to see elephant droppings and tracks in different parts of the mountain. Unable to find a way, they called the National Emergency Service at 999. From the hill next to Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive, they watched Air Force training at sea. Later, when the matter was reported to the Air Force control room from 999, the location of the youths trapped in the Darianagar Hills, below the Ramu Police Station on Marine Drive, was identified.
Later, under the Air Force ‘Aid to Civilian Power’, the Bangladesh Air Force formed the Zahurul Haque Base Search and Rescue Team to assist the civil administration and dispatched a search and rescue helicopter AW -139 to the venue at 4.30 pm.
The helicopter arrived at Cox’s Bazar at night and at 5:30 pm, a search and rescue team with the help of Sheikh Hasina Air Base rescued four students trapped on a remote mountain and took them to Cox’s Bazar Airport.
As there was no suitable place for the helicopter to land on the mountain, the students were brought to the helicopter with the help of special rescue ropes.
