Police arrested a young woman for allegedly hacking and injuring a university student in Rajshahi. Victim Farzana Tasnim Simran (20) is a freshman in the Agribusiness Department at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. He is a resident of the Tikapara area of the Boalia police station in the city.
The victim’s mother filed a case at the Boalia police station on Saturday night. Farzana is currently undergoing treatment in ward no. 3 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The arrested Jharna Begum (24) is a resident of the Tikapara Mirerchak area of the Boalia Police Station. His mother, Zarina Begum, is a maid in the student’s home.
Jharna went to Farzana’s home on Saturday afternoon, police said. At that moment Farzana was going out to open the door to meet his girlfriend. Jharna suddenly grabbed Farzana’s hair and pulled hard, hitting the left side of his chest with a fork. Locals arrested Farzana when he tried to escape from the fountain. A search was carried out and a sharp knife was recovered from her toiletry bag.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Boalia Model Police Station, Nibaran Chandra Barman, said the cause of the incident was unknown. Jharna will be brought to court on Sunday and pretrial detention will be sought.
