The party’s vice president, Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, also sent a notice of demonstrative cause to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Today, the general secretary of BNP, Barabar Barbar, has sent a written response to the notification of cause of demonstration regarding the accusations of incompetence and breach of discipline.
In the notice, he wrote: “I am a war-wounded titled freedom fighter. I was surprised to receive a philosophy notice on Victory Day in Intellectual Martyrs Day month. I have been involved in BNP politics for 29 years. Many misspellings, including the spelling of my name, are visible in the letter signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Before joining BNP, I was elected Member of Parliament three times. I joined BNP as an independent candidate in 1991. I feel very humiliated to summon the President as Co-Secretary-General (without order) in such harsh and offensive language. Protocol and courtesy have been violated. I did not expect such a letter from him.
With all due respect to the decision of the party leadership, I would like to make the following statement regarding the allegations made in the letter:
1. I was never given the responsibility of the Barisal Divisional Organizing Team.
2. The offer of the post of convener of the Central Vigilance Committee of the Nationalist Peasant Party could not be accepted due to illness. My current age is 6 years and 2 months, I think that the number of people in the Central Committee or the Standing Committee of BNP will not be more than 4.
3. The police arrested me at Dhaka airport before attending a meeting to demand the release of Begum Khaleda Zia, so I was unable to go to Barisal. The current government falsely accused me of conspiracy against the state. I am not aware of such serious accusations being made against any senior BNP leader. In addition to these cases, I have seen a dozen cases regularly over the last ten years.
4.5.6. I was not invited to the party meeting described. In the past, I have been invited to Independence Day, Victory Day, and other memorable days associated with great freedom fighters. It is understood that there is an active faction in the BNP to keep the freedom fighters at bay. In the last year, I have participated in 6 meetings held in the National Press Club, the organizer is the Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party 2, the Bangladesh Kalyan Party is 2, the BNP is 1 organization. Famous fighters for the freedom of the country participated in these meetings. I have criticized the various activities of BNP for malicious purposes, this is a completely false comment. The following 4 statements that I have made recently have caught the attention of readers of various newspapers:
(A) People think that BNP has boycotted the elections in which it should have participated and has given legitimacy to the fascist Awami government by participating in elections in which participation is useless.
(B) BNP MPs elected in just five districts after the 2016 midnight vote theft should not have attended the parliamentary session.
(C) Begum Khaleda Zia has been in jail for two years, but BNP leaders Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal have not been able to form any effective movement for her release.
(D) There is no democratic practice in these two main parties BNP and Awami League. In these statements, I did not make any false or disrespectful comments about the top leadership of the party, but I criticized myself.
. In the print and electronic media, I did not make any statement against the interests and discipline of the parties. All print and electronic media are under the control of the current ruling government, where our statements are deliberately distorted and fragmented. I’ve been in politics for 34 years, never spoke against anyone, not even my opponents, by political etiquette. I have also made many statements against the unelected government of the Awami League, but I have not personally attacked anyone. Ittefaq newspaper, owned by Anwar Hossain Manzur, close to the government, published a controversial statement about Mr. Shah Moazzem Hossain, Lawyer Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam and Begum Khaleda Zia quoting me. BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that there was nothing negative in Major Hafeez’s statement. Please read the clipping from that magazine again. I have never made disrespectful comments about Begum Khaleda Zia or Mr. Tareq Rahman. I think they have hurt me by making such accusations.
. The country’s leader, Begum Khaleda Zia, sent me instructions to keep the party together through her lawyer Nowshad Zamir. Former Speaker Jamir Uddin Sarkar asked me and Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain to attend the meeting at his residence. I introduced myself immediately, but Mr. Delwar did not come. The next day I had a short meeting with Mr. Khandaker Delwar at Bardem Hospital, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi saw me go there. BNP Deputy Secretary General at the MP hostel next week. After an hour and a half meeting with Khandaker Delwar at Shahjahan’s house, our misunderstanding was cleared up. Later, I said in various press conferences that the BNP is united under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia and Khandaker Delwar.
9. I met Begum Zia after his release. He treated me kindly when I told him that I had obeyed all his instructions sent from prison. After reviewing my activities, he nominated me for the 2008, 2010 by-elections and 2016 parliamentary elections. I am grateful for that. 105 BNP MPs have supported Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan’s party reform proposal.
10. I have never harassed any BNP worker in my constituency, nor have I kept them inactive in party activities. After the 2008 parliamentary elections, some BNP activists colluded with the Awami League MPs and began to torture BNP workers. The BNP central committee fired two leaders at the Lalmohan and Tajumuddin police stations for violating party discipline. One of them, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, was expelled for forging a signature and issuing a letter. They were members of the Awami League, the BNP joined our party after coming to power, the party returned to the Awami League after being overthrown.
11. I have not created any group in my constituency, all leaders and workers are loyal to me even though there is a secret group. The main committee of the party and the committees of its affiliates have been formed by the vote of the councilors following the constitution.
The BNP Bhola District Committee was also elected in the presence of Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The Awami MP in my area is a large-scale terrorist, accused of shooting himself and killing a Juba League activist. Due to their oppression, the main leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates left the area. Many have been injured in Awami cadre attacks. I have treated them all and have been providing legal assistance by hiring attorneys. How can I be elected Member of Parliament six times in a row without evaluating the staff? My father from the seat during the Pakistani period. Azhar Uddin Ahmed was also elected Member of Parliament three times as an opposition candidate. We do politics for the welfare of the people, not to oppress leaders and workers. We have protected an upazila from river erosion and made tremendous improvements in education and communication in the area during the BNP rule. We have transformed Grameen Bazar Lalmohan into a first-class municipality. I have created five universities without government help, four in the name of my parents and one in the name of my upazila. I request that if any leader or activist in my constituency complains on my behalf, they be called to the Central Committee for questioning. Let’s see if there have been any political cases against him in the last 12 years. The truth will be revealed only if a team sent from the center goes to the area and secretly collects information.
In conclusion, my main point is that I did not make any disrespectful or disrespectful comments directed at the top BNP leaders. The martyred president Ziaur Rahman is a symbol of honesty and patriotism. I fought risking my life as an army officer under his command in the liberation war, I was wounded in the coming war. On December 14, after a deadly one-day battle against the Pak army, I captured the city of Sylhet under their leadership. On this day in 2020, my team made me stand on the fence. The content of the letter was reported in electronic media before it was sent to me. This has surprised many of my staff. This is an internal party matter, there was no need to issue a public notice. Our team is going through a difficult time. The party council has not been held for the past four years. No Central Committee meeting was held after the 2016 elections. I had no opportunity to speak. Today, as an insignificant BNP activist, I would like to make some recommendations to the leaders:
(A) The party’s National Council must be convened by March 2021.
(B) Accusations of committee trading and standardization trading have surfaced at various levels of the party. The matter must be investigated by a committee headed by a senior member of the party’s standing committee and a report of the council meeting must be presented. In all future elections, one person must be nominated as a party candidate and another as an alternate candidate. This will reduce opportunities for nominee trading.
(C) The Permanent National Committee of the Party, the Central Executive Committee and the Committees of the Organizations must be constituted by the vote of the Councilors. Recently, the central leaders of the student party have formed a committee in my constituency in Dhaka. I don’t know the summoner. Chhatra League workers also have a place on this committee. My recommendation was not considered. No response was received by letter addressed to the president and the acting secretary general. After 29 years of service, I can expect a response to the letter!
(D) If allegations of corruption are brought against any party member, organizational action should be taken against them after the investigation. Only then will the soul of the great honest, disinterested and disinterested leader Shaheed Ziaur Rahman find peace.
Lastly, I am not an important leader of the party, but I try to fulfill all the responsibilities that have been entrusted to me. The police have arrested me four times in the last six years for participating in the anti-government movement. They arrested me on the road, not at home. I had to hold a press conference at the press club on the instructions of the leader, as I could not find important leaders after the night of the BNP siege of Dhaka in 2014. There I was arrested by the police. I was imprisoned in Narayanganj Jail for two months. On the day that the country’s leader was arrested, only three members of the permanent committee, plus a lawyer, and I were present, we protested against the government’s repression on a television channel. But today they accused me of inaction.
Begum Zia is a fighter leader at the peak of her popularity, there is no doubt that she does not disrespect her. I have never insulted any member of Zia’s family, nor will I in the future. Even if I quit politics, I will treasure the ideal of Bangladeshi nationalism in my heart. I will speak against hegemony. I am not a student at any school for the deaf and dumb, I am a high-ranking member of the largest and most popular party in the country. I extend my sincere greetings to the many tortured leaders and activists of the BNP and wish the recovery and release of the country’s leader.
My humble request is that my statement be presented to the members of the Standing Committee. I am willing to accept any punishment if I am found guilty in the context of the statement. I always respect the party leadership. “
