Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Alim said 11 candidates were arrested in Mohammadpur, the capital, in connection with the vandalism.

“They have been charged with vandalism and assault on the police,” he told bdnews24.com.

Due to the coronavirus situation, the test was postponed at a point from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. However, no test was performed at any of the centers and the test was performed until 2 pm in some centers.

Azimpur Girls School and College, Sheikh Borhanuddin Post Graduate College, Sutrapur Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Mohammadpur Women’s College, Government Mohammadpur Model School and College, Mohammadpur Central College, Tikatuli Central Women’s College, BCSIR High School and Laxmi Bazar Dhaka Metropolitan Women’s College Done. Approximately 13,000 people participated in the test.

As soon as the exams began in the morning, the candidates boycotted the exams at various centers in Mohammadpur and Old Dhaka, claiming that the exams had become difficult.

Some people said that the exam was not carried out due to riots and vandalism in some centers.

At one stage of the vandalism, the books and questionnaires of the examinees were thrown outside the center.

However, Rafiqul Islam, secretary of the Bar Association, could not confirm the commotion in the center, boycotting the exams or forcing them not to appear.

He told bdnews24.com, “I heard there was a commotion at a center in Mohammadpur. I can’t say more than that for now.”

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, President of the Bar Association, said: “We will take action if the matter is confirmed later for those who wanted to take the test but could not.” Those who were unable to take the test must act by understanding whether they were forced to do so or not.

“I can’t do more than that now. Besides, I can’t do anything alone, I have to sit with everyone. A committee of five of us. These five will decide together.”

A person who took the exam at the Dhaka Metropolitan Women’s College in Laxmibazar told bdnews24.com on condition of anonymity: “Everything is random. 5 minutes after the start of the test, the examinees broke down the center door and left the center with questions and books. Then the police were totally silent. It was like this for more than half an hour.

“Later, the magistrate and team went into some exam centers. I was sitting at a broken table inside the center. But there was no one inside except the teachers. I later gave the test to some candidates including myself. The test was extends an hour until 2 pm “.

The examinee said: “Everyone came to take the exam. But there have been irrational, unfounded and unprecedented questions in the history of the Bar Association. The question document was not made keeping the criteria “.

Jaker Hossain, an examinee of Government Mohammadpur Model School and College, made the same accusation.

He said: “I entered the center before the scheduled time following the hygiene rules. After receiving the questionnaires, the examinees began to make noise. The question is an exception. The traditional question that the Bar Association has been asking is not the same this time.

“At one point, some students came along and started stealing the test takers’ books with the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. They began to break doors and windows. They threw questions and notebooks onto the field. Some have even left voluntarily. The situation lasted until 10:30. At that time, the magistrate, the teachers in charge of the exam, took refuge in a room for their own safety ”.

Jaker said: “Around 11pm, the central controller announced that there would be no exam. He told the examinees to go home. Even after the announcement, when some candidates did not come out, the police came and beat them. The entire center was evacuated at 11:30 am. After that there was no proof. “

Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Clerk of the Supreme Court Bar Association, posted on his Facebook account about anarchy in Bar Examinations.

At one stage of the vandalism, the books and questionnaires of the examinees were thrown outside the center.

With four pictures, he wrote: “Uncertainty prevails among test takers at the Science Laboratory Center and Mohammadpur Central College due to the unprecedented anarchy in the Advocate Bar of Bangladesh Bar Council written exam. I am saddened by this anarchy and strongly condemn the incident.

In this context, I have already met with the Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council, Mr. AM Amin Uddin, the Chairman of the Bar Council Registration Committee, Mr. Justice. Nuruzzaman, Vice President Mr. Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Member of the Bar Council Mr. AJ Mohammad Ali. I have asked you to make a positive decision so that no actual examinee is harmed in any way. Students will not be disappointed. I firmly believe that the authorities of the Bar Association will be on your side ”.

The test was supposed to take place on September 28. Previously, the Bar Association had issued a notice on September 20 stating that the test was not possible due to the coronavirus situation. In that announcement, the Bar Association announced the new exam date of December 19.

In addition to the written test, the candidates started a movement demanding the inclusion of lawyers in the oral test. They raised this demand in different departments. But the Bar Association is adamant about taking the test on the announced date.

To be included in the Bangladesh Bar Association as a lawyer, that is, to obtain a lawyer’s certificate, you need to pass an objective, written and oral exam.

Once one of the three steps is passed, they have a second chance to participate in the next test. If they fail the second time, they must re-participate in the test from the beginning.

Out of 34,000 students in 2016, 3,590 dropped out for the second time on the written test and in 2020, a total of 12,354 certified candidates were scheduled to participate in the written test, including 6,064 who passed the objective test.
