Former Mexican governor shot dead in restaurant bathroom

Aristóteles Sandovalve, a former governor of the Mexican state of Jalisco, was shot dead in a bathroom. The drug cycle in the country is blamed.

The incident occurred on Friday in Puerto Vallarta, the most popular tourist destination in the country.

The Guardian reports that the former governor was rescued and his bodyguards tried to take him to a hospital, but armed men blocked the road. A short time later he was taken to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

The attorney general of the state of Jalisco, Gerardo Octavio Solís, said he was attacked at 1:40 pm local time.

The attorney general added that he and four others went to eat at the restaurant. The assailants were waiting to leave their table. He was attacked as soon as he got up and went to the bathroom.

Aristotle Sandoval was guarded by 15 police bodyguards, but only two were present at the time of the attack. Security analyst Alejandro Hope said: “The murder was premeditated, it means that someone has been looking for him for weeks. Maybe someone knew his movements, and at least he knew when his bodyguards would be less.
