Kushtia: Police arrested three people in a special powers laws case brought by the university’s principal, Harun Aur Rashid, for vandalizing the sculpture of the revolutionary Bagha Jatin at Kaya College in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali.

Kushtia Police Superintendent SM Tanvir Arafat said this at a press conference at the Kushtia Police Superintendent’s office on Saturday (December 19).

They were detained during raids in different areas on Friday night (December 16).

The detainees are Anichur Rahman (35), Sabuj Hossain (20) and Hridoy Ahmed (20), president of the Kaya Union Juba League.

At a press conference, the police superintendent said that three people were directly involved in the vandalism of the sculpture of the revolutionary Bagha Jatin at Kaya College in Kumarkhali upazila on Thursday (December 16) evening. The rest of those who are with them will also be subject to the law very soon and will be handed over to the court.

Tanvir Arafat said that what I have learned so far in research is due to internal conflicts at the university. There is a conflict between the president and defender of Kaya College, Nizamul Haque Chunu, and the director Harun Rashid. So far we have known that the sculpture may have been vandalized for this reason. There is visual evidence of this incident. The college janitor witnessed the incident with his own eyes. They had been stationed there for quite some time. From 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., they hit three places with hammers. Later they left the place on a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, on Saturday (December 19) at 11 am, Jasdar district leaders organized a protest rally and human chain at the corner of the Kushtia city police station in connection with the vandalism of the sculpture of the revolutionary Bagha Jatin at Kaya College.

Earlier on Friday (December 4) around 2 pm, criminals similarly smashed Bangabandhu’s sculpture with a hammer. Subsequently, the police collected CCTV footage of the incident. The following day, Saturday (December 5), the police carried out a day and night operation and arrested two students from the madrasa and their two associate professors.
