A mobile RAB court on Friday sentenced a bogus doctor named Ashraful Islam to life in prison after arresting him at Dayarampur Bazar in upazila.
The RAB and locals said that Ashraful Islam had been seeing patients at Dayrampur Bazar in Bagatipara Upazila for a long time. After passing HSC, he used the medical degree to treat the eyes of the people there. It has been doing this job in that market for 13 long years.
He did his work in a shop called ‘Keya Chashma Ghar’ in the market. There on the sign before your name. He used the last name and referred to him as an ophthalmologist and head of the Gurudaspur Ophthalmological Hospital in Natore district.
When the matter came to the attention of RAB, ASP Masud Parvez of CPC-2 of RAB-5 conducted a trade in the market on Friday. Ashraful Islam was arrested at Keya Chashma Ghar there.
At the same time, the RAB also arrested Akkas Ali, the owner of Keya Chashma Ghar. After their arrest, they were brought before a mobile RAB court. The mobile court sentenced Ashraful Islam to two years in prison without parole and two years in prison for failing to pay a fine of Taka 50,000.
A mobile court also sentenced Akkas Ali, owner of Chashma Ghar, to three months in prison for failing to pay a fine of Taka 75,000 for selling fake medicines to a fake doctor despite knowing that he did not hold an MBBS degree.
However, Ashraful Islam claimed to reporters that it had completed a one-year diploma course after passing HSC.
Ziaur Rahman, executive magistrate of the mobile court, said the fake doctor Ashraful Islam was convicted under the Medical and Dental Council Act 2010 and the owner of the show shop under the Consumer Rights Act 2009.
