Two people, including a doctor, were killed and three others injured in a three-way collision between a pickup truck, a GNC autorickshaw and an easy bike in Shayestaganj of Habiganj. The accident took place in Kalimnagar on the Shayestaganj-Habiganj ring road at 11 a.m. on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Dipankar Poddar, son of the late Chandan Chandra Poddar from Chhatiain village in Madhabpur upazila and Julhas Uddin, son of Safir Uddin from Gafurgaon area in Mymensingh.
Shayestaganj Police Station OC Ajay Chandra Dev said that a Shayestaganj CNG (autorickshaw) and tomtom (easy bike) collided head-on with a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction on the road to Habiganj. Two people were killed on the spot. Upon receiving the news, the police rescued the dead and injured from the scene and sent them to Habiganj Adhunik Zila Sadar Hospital.
Habiganj Deputy Civil Surgeon. Mukhlesur Rahman Ujjal said, Dr. Dipankar is an officer of the 39th BCSA. His wife is in a course at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. They also have a 6 month old boy. On Thursday night he was on duty at Habiganj Modern District Sadar hospital and on Friday morning he was on his way to Shayestaganj to visit his wife and children. From there he had to get in the car to Sylhet. But he did not return to his homeland before leaving for his wife and son. His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the health department.
