The deceased was identified as Monir, son of Ali Ahmed Basu, president of the Juba League, district 8 of the Tewariganj union and the village of Andharamanik. By profession he was the head of the land of the brickyard. It is known that he was appointed president of the Ward Juba League 15 days ago. He has a daughter and three sons.

According to the police and local sources, Monir was a potter. He used to sell dirt in different brick kilns. On Thursday, the owner of a brick kiln paid him two lakh rupees for the land. Since it is Monir’s new home, there is a folding door outside, but the door has not yet been installed inside. On Friday morning, the thieves climbed onto the roof of the house with a ladder. Since there was no door in the roof, they entered the house and tied up the relatives. At one stage, Monir and his wife Milon were accidentally hacked. The robbers then injured them and fled. At that point, the thieves took Monir’s motorcycle, two lakhs of rupees, and the gold decorations of the house. Later, the locals came to the rescue of the injured and took them to Noakhali General Hospital. Monir died on the way to the hospital. The doctor on duty at the hospital sent the injured Milon to Dhaka for better treatment.

Omar Farooq Ibn Hussein, president of the Tewariganj Parishad Union, said robbers broke into the house and beat Monir to death. His wife was also sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment with serious injuries.

AKM Salahuddin Tipu, president of the Laxmipur district Juba League, said it was a disgusting incident. I demand the immediate arrest of those involved. I have asked the police to make sure that no innocent person is harassed.

The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Laxmipur Sadar AKM Azizur Rahman Mia model police station said: “We have visited the site together with the police superintendent.” Monir was killed with machetes when he came to commit a robbery. The incident will be investigated and action will be taken.
