Two people, including a doctor, were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a CNG self-propelled truck in the Kalimnagar area of the Habiganj-Shayestaganj regional highway on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Dipankar Poddar, 35, a doctor at the 250-bed Habiganj Hospital in the Sadar District, and Julhas Uddin, 50, a resident of Mymensingh.
According to the police and some eyewitnesses, an autorickshaw was heading from Habiganj town to the new Shayestaganj bridge area in the district around 11:15 pm. When the autorickshaw arrived near the Habiganj-Shayestaganj regional highway, it collided head-on with a pickup truck carrying water from Chunarughat to the town of Habiganj. The autorickshaw is twisted. The passengers were identified as Dipankar Poddar, a doctor at Habiganj Sadar District Hospital and a resident of Satian village in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj, and Julhas Uddin, a resident of Sripan village in Mymensingh. Julhas’ son works as a sheriff for the Habiganj Police. He came to Habiganj to see his son. He lost his life in the accident while returning home today. Julhas was a teacher by profession.
Habiganj Shayestaganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajay Chandra Dev told Prothom Alo that two people, including a doctor, were killed at the scene when the van collided head-on with an autorickshaw. After recovering their bodies, the police sent them to the 250-bed morgue of the Habiganj Sadar District Hospital for an autopsy.
