The party’s vice president, Shawkat Mahmud, has responded to BNP’s show cause notice (show cause) by alleging anti-discipline activities. He responded to the program within 72 hours. Major (retired) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, another vice president of the party, did not reply. He called a press conference on Saturday.
On Wednesday night (December 16), his personal assistant Abdul Matin delivered the reply letter in an envelope to the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan. The office staff, Abdul Gaffar, accepted it.
According to sources close to Shawkat Mahmood, he has given his answer in three lines. He wrote that he was not consciously involved in any anti-disciplinary activity outside of the ideology of the nationalist party, outside of party decisions. Even then, you regret being involved in any work without your knowledge.
Earlier in the evening of December 14, Deputy Party Chief Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed signed a petition asking BNP Vice President Hafiz Uddin to respond to allegations of anti-party activities in five days and Shawkat Mahmud in 72 hours.
Hafiz Uddin expressed his inability to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to him from the highest level of the party at different times. In particular, it flatly refused to do so, despite being entrusted with the responsibility of policing the nationalist peasantry. He has also recently made critical comments against the party’s high command more than once in public. That is why he has been in mourning. Shawkat Mahmud, former chairman of the Federal Union of Journalists of Bangladesh and former chairman of the National Press Club, has been accused of being involved in the “change of government movement” without following the party’s decision.
According to party sources, several political parties and some professional leaders, including the BNP, Jamaat, Frente Unitario and the Left, have been campaigning for some time to unite and demand the fall of the government. Therefore, December 14 was chosen as the day. At the last minute, Tarique Rahman gave a strong message to party leaders and workers not to participate in this program. However, Hafiz Uddin and Shawkat Mahmud joined the process without following the party’s decision. That is why they lamented.
According to party sources, a procession left the National Press Club on Monday without informing the High Command and took a position in Muktang. Shawkat Mahmud was in the procession. The rally was preceded by a rally at the National Press Club. For this reason, he is charged with non-compliance with discipline.
The notice sent to Hafiz Uddin said that he could not do so even if he was given the responsibility of dividing the party during the One-Eleven and becoming general secretary. Furthermore, he has spoken disrespectfully to senior party leaders at different times.
Although Shawkat Mahmud responded to the show, Major (retd) Hafeez did not respond until Friday. However, he called a press conference on Saturday (December 19) at 11 am at his residence in Banani. Hafeez said he would give details there. A leader close to him said that Hafizuddin would send his reply in writing to BNP headquarters after informing the media. You can announce your retirement from the policy. However, a section of the BNP is trying to keep him away from the press conference.
Shawkat Mahmud, former chairman of the National Press Club and a branch of the Federal Union of Journalists of Bangladesh, was appointed vice chairman of the party at the sixth BNP national council in 2016. Previously, he was a member of the advisory council to the president of BNP. And Major (Retd.) Hafiz is a former minister in the BNP government. He has been vice president of the party for a long time.
