A case has been brought in a Chittagong court against 36 people, including the controversial leader of Hefazat, Mamunul Haque, for threatening to demolish the sculpture of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Abu Hanif, said that 38 people had been accused of continuously torturing Ahmed Shafi to death and killing him. It was alleged in the RG of the case that before Ahmed Shafi’s death, the defendant together with Mamunul Haque held a meeting in the Babunagar area of ​​Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong on 11 September. From there, the expulsion of Shafi’s son, Anas Madani, from the position of director of education at the madrasa was demanded. Ahmed Shafi was threatened with extortion if he was not expelled. After this, a group of rebellious students was taken to the camp at noon on September 16. They went to Allama Shafi’s room and showed fear and vandalized and looted the madrasa property. Shafiputra Anas entered Madani’s room and looted Tk 28 lakh in cash, 20 gold ornaments from his wife and daughter, Tk 40 lakh in cash from Maulana Omar’s room, Tk 60,000 from Mufti Osman and Tk 30,000 from Maulana Didar.

Shah Ahmad Shafi, a century-old religious figure, died on September 18. He was the CEO of Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari, Chittagong. The students protested by blocking Ahmad Shafi in the madrasa for three days. Meanwhile, Shafi’s condition deteriorated and he died after being transferred to a hospital in Dhaka.

What Mamunul Haque said about the case

Hefazat-e-Islam’s current deputy general secretary, Mamunul Haque, has denied any involvement in the death of Allama Shafi and warned of legal retaliation. Regarding the case, he said: ‘I am surprised to learn that a murder case has been filed. A case has been filed on behalf of 36 people there, my name has been mentioned there. But I was not close to Allama Ahmad Shafi in all circumstances before his death.

Mamunul Haque further said: ‘Why they did this incident, by including my name there, its true purpose is clear here. In fact, they want to defeat us. After his death (of Allama Shafi), the devout Muslims of this country will not tolerate this game of their interests centered on him. ‘

Mamunul said: ‘I have been defamed. I will take legal action against them in consultation with attorneys and in consultation with other responsible parties and ulama kerams.
