Faced with this situation, a delegation from the commission led by Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain visited El Bangla to see the preparations for the elections. On the same day, they held a meeting with the representatives of all Bengal’s political parties, the Chief Secretary-Secretary of the Interior and the Superintendent of Police from 15 districts. The delegation, including Sudip Jain, will return to Kolkata after the full Election Commission arrives in Delhi.

On Thursday, the Deputy Election Commissioner held a face-to-face meeting in Kolkata with district governors, police superintendents and police commissioners from 15 districts of South Bengal. This is the first time that the state health secretary, Narayan Swarup Nigam, is summoned for a meeting of the Election Commission. This official from the Electoral Commission wants to understand the issue of health infrastructure in the state in the context of the voting code. Sudip spoke with Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Interior Secretary Harikrishna Dwivedi and Director General of Birendra State Police. They also hold separate conversations with recognized political parties. Leaving the meeting, Trinamool Secretary General Perth Chatterjee said: “We have informed the commission that many are behaving like the Election Commission.” However, the opposition complained to Sudip Jain about the law and order situation in the state. In that context, the police superintendents and district magistrates in each district have been instructed to report to the commission whenever there is disturbance in any area.

The meeting also gave special importance to the situation of law and order in the state, as well as in the border areas. Shortly after today’s meeting, the Election Commission team will go first to Malda by helicopter and then to Siliguri and meet with the district administration and North Bengal police officials. The BJP has already met with the Election Commission and questioned whether the names of the deceased and those who had gone elsewhere were omitted from the draft voter list. They claim that BLOs are not available to modify the voter list. They also demanded the deployment of central forces in the state to deal with the unrest.
