The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested nine people, including three women, in a raid on a factory for counterfeit money and counterfeit Indian rupees. The Gulshan division of DB arrested them on Thursday in the Jurain area of the capital.

Mashiur Rahman, DC of DB’s Gulshan division, told Jugantar that the counterfeit money recovered included 500 and 1000 rupee bills and counterfeit 500 rupee bills. The gang members used to make fake money by hiding in Bagerhat, Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Dhaka District, Narayanganj District, Gazipur District and various places in the Dhaka metropolis. They were renting a flat on Shaheed Shahadat Hossain Road in the Jurain area of the Dhaka metropolis, as the demand for rupees and counterfeit money increased on the occasion of the coming Thirty-First and New Years.
DB officials said there were dozens of cases against almost all the people arrested in different districts of the country, including the metropolis of Dhaka. Zakir was also arrested in 2019 along with his wife and other accomplices while earning fake rupees at a state-of-the-art house in the Demra area. Zakir is an auctioneer, hammer engineer, and expert in making counterfeit money and rupees. Obaidul and Jasim used to do special paper, security thread and other jobs in the counterfeit money factory. Badal is a wholesale distributor in Dhaka, Savar and Manikganj. Shihab is a wholesaler in the capital. Distributors in Sagar Narayanganj and Gazipur. Jamal is the main counterfeit banknote provider in the southern region, including Barisal. The ring sells fake money through various networks in the open market, shopping malls, vehicle drivers and helpers through various networks.
