The High Court has stayed the eviction of 34 shops in the Sundarbans Square market in Gulistan. Hearing of judicial petition of the owner of store 34 on Thursday (December 16), Justicia A virtual bank of Mojibur High Court Rahman Mia and Judge Mohi Uddin Shamim approved the order.
Lawyer Badruddoza Badal heard the writ petition in court. Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state.
Later, Badruddoza Badal said, 34 stores of our applicants are on the right side. We have said that they are being evicted for no reason. The court ordered a stay and issued a rule.
Meanwhile, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched an eviction campaign to remove illegal facilities outside of the original design since noon on Thursday.
Executive Justices Moniruzzaman and Irfan Ahmed, led by DSCC Property Director Russell Sabrin, are carrying out the operation. DSCC Executive Magistrate Irfan Ahmed said 69 illegal stores have been set up in the Sundarbans Square market. These stores have been built occupying the space of the market stairs, market aisles, elevators and toilets.
The merchants present at the eviction site claimed that the city authorities were not complying with the court’s suspension order. Four attorneys spoke on behalf of the merchants at the scene, the merchants said. But the eviction did not stop.
Meanwhile, in light of past experience, DSCC is conducting an eviction campaign with a large number of police and RAB members.
