Cox’s Bazar DC Mohammad Kamal Hossain unveiled the sculpture at Labani Point on the beach at 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

After the interpretation of the national anthem, the sculpture was inaugurated with 100 flying doves on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the Father of the Nation. It will remain open until December 31.

DC Kamal said: “The artwork is presented as a language of protest against the demolition of the Bangabandhu sculpture in various places in the country, including Kushtia. The initiative has been taken to spread the wave of protests across the country from the seashore ”.

He said construction of a permanent sculpture at Bangabandhu Chattar in the Kalatali area of ​​Cox’s Bazar city is also in progress. The proposed sculpture design has already been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office. Construction will be arranged after approval.

Branding Cox’s Bazar coordinator Ishtiaq Ahmed Joy said: “When there was an attempt to demolish the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia, it occurred to me to protest in a new way by installing sand sculptures on the beach. As part of this, student artists from the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University were contacted. Later, he contacted the Cox’s Bazar district administration. “

Kamrul Hasan Shipon, a student in the sculpture department at Dhaka University, participated in the construction of the sand sculpture.

Shipon said: “I participated in the construction of the sand sculpture as an exceptional protest. The first and largest sand sculpture of Bangabandhu has been erected to spread the protest at all levels.

He said: “This freestanding bust sculpture 10 feet high, a relief sculpture 6 feet wide and 10 feet long, has been built. So far no such sand structure sculpture has been made in Bangladesh. “

Police Superintendent. Hasanuzzaman, the acting president of the district Awami League, Faridul Islam, the mayor of Cox’s Bazar municipality, Mujibur Rahman, and the freedom fighter Kamal Hossain Chowdhury were present at the occasion.
