Three passengers, including an autorickshaw driver, died and one was injured when they were crushed by a truck in Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon. Police arrested the truck along with its driver in the incident. The autorickshaw driver was immediately identified among the dead, but the others were not identified.
The deceased was identified as Anish (35). He lived in the Naojor area of the Gazipur metropolis. The name of the arrested trucker is Al Amin (25). He is the son of Abdul Monnaf from the Durgapur area of the Kalihati Police Station in Tangail.
GMP’s Basan Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said a truck was heading to Lalmonirhat on Tuesday after loading fertilizer from the Ghorashal factory. At around 4.30pm, Bhulta-Naojor Road (Dhaka Bypass) arrived at Bhogra Bypass at Gazipur City Corporation’s Basan Police Station. At that point, a battery-powered autorickshaw heading towards the Bhogra bypass suddenly headed in the opposite direction through the splitter gap and the truck driver lost control and crushed the autorickshaw along with the passengers. Three occupants of the autorickshaw, including the driver, were killed instantly and another was injured. The locals rescued the injured and sent them to hospital. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the bodies of the deceased at the scene and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The driver of the truck with the deadly truck was detained at that time. One of the dead has been identified. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
