Reminding everyone in Bangladesh of their right to practice their religion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked them not to use religion as a political tool.
The Prime Minister said: ‘The people of Bangladesh are religious, not fanatical. Don’t use religion as a political tool. Everyone has the right to practice their religion. Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians: this country has become independent in exchange for the blood of people of all religions and castes.
The Prime Minister said so in her address to the nation tonight on the occasion of the 49th Victory Day. He mentioned the various contributions of the Bangabandhu government and the current Awami League government in spreading Islamic values in the country.
The Prime Minister said: “The father of the nation was not only a pure Muslim, he also observed religious observances with devotion. Who else like him could understand the mental thinking aspirations of the Bengal people! So when he wrote the constitution, he reflected the hopes and aspirations of the people and adopted Bengali nationalism, secularism, democracy, and socialism as the four basic principles of state government.
Referring to Bangabandhu’s contribution to the spread of Islamic values, he said that what the Father of the Nation, a believer in secularism, has done to protect and spread Islamic values, masked governments have never done on behalf of the Islam. The prohibition of alcohol, gambling and horse racing by law, the establishment of Islamic foundations, the establishment of madrasa boards, the acquisition of OIC membership were all carried out by Bangabandhu within three years and a half of independence.
Sheikh Hasina said: “No government in the past has done as much as my government has done in the propagation and dissemination of religious education.” We have established the Islamic Arab University. Honors courses have been introduced in 60 model madrasas. Qawmi Madrasa has been recognized and the level of Hadith in Dawar has received the standard of Masters. I have made a special assignment for the students and teachers of the madrasa. Beautiful mosques are being built in all districts and upazila. We have formed a wellness foundation to help the imams and muezzins. Mosque-based libraries have been created across the country under the auspices of the Islamic Foundation. Arrangements have been made for the employment of hundreds of thousands of scholars and ulama.
Complaining that people are being misled in the name of religion despite all this, the Prime Minister said: “A part of the defeated power of 71 has come to light lately to confuse ordinary devout Muslims with false statements, manufactured and manufactured. He wants to create unrest in society. The Father of the Nation said in 1972 that religion should not be used as a political tool. But the allies of the defeated power dream of returning the country to the state of 50 years ago. He is showing audacity to scowl at the government with political help.
This is the Bangladesh of Lalon Shah, Rabindranath, Kazi Nazrul, Jibanananda. This is the Bangladesh of Shahjalal, Shah Paran, Shah Makdum, Khanjahan Ali. This Bangladesh is Sheikh Mujib’s Bangladesh; Bangladesh of sixteen and a half crore Bengalis. This country belongs to everyone. We will not allow any kind of division and chaos in the name of religion in this country. The people of this country will advance on the path of progress, progress and development by upholding religious values, ”said the Prime Minister in her speech.
