Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, deputy general secretary of the Awami League, said: “Even after 50 years of independence, we have to talk about independence again and talk about the constitution.” There was talk of the national anthem. Today, in the name of the madrassa education system or in the name of religion, they are attacking the constitution by misinterpreting religion in new ways.
He said this while addressing a discussion titled ‘Liberation War Awareness and the Current Context: What to Do in Teacher Society’ at the Pre-Club National Auditorium on Tuesday noon.
Addressing misunderstandings of religion, including Maulana Mamunul Haque, Hanif said: “Is there any sign of peace in the language they speak today in the name of Islam?” Speaking of which language, can you find any of these civilizations? They are talking about the extremist terrorist type.
Commenting that the country did not liberate itself by fighting to hear the arrogance of the Razakars, Hanif said: “We want to make it clear that we liberated the country by fighting.” We have liberated the country by defeating the Pakistanis and Al-Badr Al-Shams of 1971. This is not to hear the boast of the Razakars. We defeated them in 1971. If necessary, they will be defeated again and expelled from the country.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, Nabi never took pictures, you took pictures, Nabi never got on the plane, why did he get on? Nabi didn’t get in the car, why did you get in the car? Islam has never said that Islam is the best and most up-to-date religion.
He added that secularism is not allowed in Islam. I need to know the meaning of secularism. Secularism does not mean irreligion. Whoever has his religion will follow it.
Describing BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul as the son of an anti-independent family, Hanif said: “Today, all the independence forces are united on the issue of sculpture.” Even government employees, who are government officials, are children of this country. They also protested against the vandalism of the Bangabandhu sculpture. But BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is silent on the issue. I would say that Mirza Fakhrul Sahib tries to keep the spirit of freedom in his heart.
The meeting was chaired by HM Zainul Abedin, Chairman of the Independent Council of Teachers of the Ibtedai Madrasa in Swadhinata, among others.
