The High Court has suspended the title of liberation war heroism awarded to four assassins convicted in the murder case of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The four medals that have been suspended are Nur Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury and Moslehuddin Khan.
Nur Chowdhury received the title of Bir Bikram, Shariful Haque Dalim received the title of Bir Uttam, and Rashed Chowdhury and Moslehuddin Khan received the title of Bir Pratik for their contribution in the liberation war.
The title was given in 1983 and a bulletin about it indicated that it would enter into force as of December 15 of that year.
According to the Gazette, for their outstanding contribution in the great war of liberation, seven heroic freedom fighters received the title Bir Shrestha, 6 received the title Bir Uttam, 185 received the title Bir Bikram and 426 received the title Bir Pratik.
At the same time, the High Court has issued a rule asking why the government’s inaction in canceling the titles of the four murderers who killed Bangabandhu and most of his relatives would not be declared illegal.
The Superior Court said their titles would be suspended until the rule hearing.
Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi Das’ writ petition was heard on Tuesday by Judge JBM Hasan and Judge Md. Banco of the Khairul Alam High Court.
The writ petition was filed on December 2.
Attorney Abdul Qayyum appeared for the petitioner’s brief and Deputy Attorney General Kalipada Mridha appeared for the state.
