The BNP has issued a notice of demonstrative cause against the retired vice-presidents of the party, Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Shawkat Mahmud, for alleged anti-party activities. It was learned that they have been protested for violating the party’s decision and carrying out a blockade in the capital.
The party’s deputy general secretary, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said that the notice of cause for the show was issued on Monday evening (December 14).
He said they had been given a show motive notice. Shawkat Mahmud has been asked to submit a written response to the party’s central office within 72 hours and to Hafiz Uddin Ahmed within five days on why no organizational action should be taken against them for misleading the parties. leaders and workers using the name of the party. Rizvi said that he signed the notice.
According to BNP sources, Major (retired) Hafiz Paltan did not participate directly in the program between the two leaders who were sent to the showcase, but had tacit support. On the other hand, disciplinary measures have been taken against Shawkat Mahmood for disobeying the party’s instructions and participating in the blocking program himself. The party’s high command regards such an unannounced program as a hasty and suicidal decision. However, the leaders did not directly mention blocking the platoon crossing in their official or show-of-cause speeches.
Retired Major Hafiz Uddin has long served as the party’s vice president. He was Minister of Water Resources in the quadripartite coalition government headed by Begum Khaleda Zia.
Shawkat Mahmud was appointed vice chairman of the party at the BNP’s sixth national council in 2016. Previously, he was a member of the advisory council to the party chairman. Shawkat Mahmud was a former president of the BNP-backed Federal Union of Journalists of Bangladesh and a former president and general secretary of the National Press Club. He is also the interim convenor of the BNP-backed Joint Professional Council.
