Hafizur Rahman, 26, committed suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen on the court premises, as he was unable to retrieve his wife and son despite having filed a case. The deceased was identified as Hafizur Rahman, the son of Nur Miah from the Kamrapur area in the Habiganj suburb. He lived with his wife and children in the Sultan Mahmudpur area.
The incident took place on the ground floor of the Habiganj courtroom on Monday (December 14) at noon. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of the Modern Habiganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Habiganj Sadar (investigation) model police station inspector Daus Mohammad, citing the deceased’s family, said that Bushra Begum, daughter of Abdul Khaleq from Khagaura village in Baniachang upazila, was married to Hafizur Rahman, who was killed about two years ago. After the marriage, a cute son sits on her lap. Recently, Hafizur and his wife Bushra used to fight over various family problems. Because of this, a few days ago Bushra went to her father’s house with her son. Hafizur repeatedly went to his father-in-law’s house to bring back his wife and son, but the matter was not resolved.
At one point, he was forced to file a ransom case under section 100 in magistrates court. In the context of the case, the court handed over Bushra to his mother Khudeja Begum after his wife Bushra testified in Habiganj Magistrates Court 1 today. As a result, Hafizur came to the ground floor of the courtroom in anger and stabbed himself in the abdomen. He was immediately rescued by those present and taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital. Mithun Roy was pronounced dead. Hundreds of people gathered in the hospital area and on the premises of the police station when the matter came to light.
Inspector (investigation) Daus Mohammad further said that the police are investigating the matter. If there is any other reason behind this will be known after investigation.
