The country’s leading Qaumi Alems have met with Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to resolve the unrest over the construction of the Bangabandhu sculpture. The meeting with the Minister of the Interior began at 9 pm on Monday (December 14). They talked for an hour and a half. Allama Mahmudul Hasan, Chairman, Hayatul Uliya, Board of Combined Education, Qawmi Madrasa, chaired the function.
The meeting was attended by Allama Farid Uddin Masood, Maulana Ataullah Hafezji, Maulana Nurul Islam Jihadi, Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Maulana Musleh Uddin Gowharpuri, Maulana Ruhul Amin from Gowhardanga and Khati from Amber Shah Shahi Mosque.
The interior minister will brief journalists on Tuesday (December 15) on the meeting’s decision. Qaumi scholars, including the leader of Hefazat-e-Islam, have opposed the installation of the Bangabandhu sculpture at Dholaipara in Dhaka.
At a meeting chaired by Maulana Mahmudul Hasan at Jatrabari Madrasa in the capital on December 5 on the sculpture issue, scholars made five proposals to resolve the situation arising from the Bangabandhu sculpture issue. They want permission to meet with the Prime Minister on all issues.
It is known that due to the coronavirus infection situation (Covid-19), since the Prime Minister does not participate directly in any meeting now, the Interior Minister has been given the responsibility to speak with academics on the issue of sculpture. In this context, the Interior Minister sat down in a meeting with academics.
At the meeting, the academics presented the explanation against the sculpture to the Minister. In addition, a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also discussed. Khatib Maulana Mazharul Islam said: “No decision has been made at the meeting. There will be more meetings.”
