The Liberation War minister said the state has run in the name of religion for some 30 years during the Pakistani government. Following the murder of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975, Ziaur Rahman, Ershad and Khaleda Zia have led the state apparatus under the patronage of fundamentalists for 30 consecutive years. The roots of the fundamentalists run very deep. So it is not possible to eradicate them in a word.
He further said, “You must have noticed how the nation is united to eradicate them under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
The Liberation War minister said that Bangabandhu had taught him not to take the law into his own hands. So we have not taken any action against them at any time. With our conscience, inspired by the principles of the liberation war, we are united to politically uproot this poison.
Regarding the list of Razakar, the minister said: “Before it was our moral duty to include the Razakar, there was no legal basis.” 15 days ago, the National Council of Freedom Fighters amended the law and approved the list of Razakars. The law to compile the list of Razakars will be approved in the next session of the National Assembly.
On the occasion of the Day of the Martyrs Intellectuals, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs paid tribute to the intellectuals who were martyred in 1971 this morning.
