Bagerhat: An eight-month pregnant housewife named Sadia Akhter Manni (19) is in trouble in Bagerhat after informing her husband about her mother-in-law’s extramarital affair. In disbelief, her husband and father-in-law allegedly beat and stabbed her.
Manni’s family, a first-year honors student at Azam Khan Government Commerce College in Khulna, alleged that Manni was married to Ashikur Rahman Sohan of Ransen village in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat on January 8 this year. After three months of marriage, Manni discovers that her mother-in-law is addicted to foreigners. When she told her husband about the incident, he did not believe her. Sohan got angry when he spoke out against his mother and began to torture her. After that, when Manni got pregnant, the torture increased. To get rid of this situation, Manni’s family appealed to Bagerhat Legal Aid for justice. Sohan left saying that he would not accept Manni as his wife.
The next day, on the night of December 9, Sohan and her family went to Manni’s home. At the time, Manni’s mother was busy entertaining the guests. Taking advantage of this opportunity, they went to the porch of the house, beat Manni and hit him on the head and fled. Later, Mannir was rescued and admitted to the hospital.
Manni’s mother, Sakira Begum, said: “We managed to marry Manni through a family ceremony based on discussions between the two parties.” I never understood that my daughter would be attacked like this with such a small incident. Manny has a child in her womb. As a mother, I want exemplary punishment for those who attack my daughter.
Sadia Akhtar Manni said: “I found out about the extramarital affair from my mother-in-law after two months of marriage.” When I told my husband, he was mad at me. Since I heard the matter, my mother-in-law and my husband have been torturing me physically and mentally. I have endured a long time understanding the face. But as the level of torture increased, I was forced to inform the family. On the day of the incident, they started beating me before I knew it. I want justice.
Sadar Bagerhat Sadar Hospital Junior Consultant (Surgery). Maryland. Ariful Islam said Sadia Akhtar Manni is now safe. We are examining how your unborn child is doing.
Bagerhat Police Superintendent Pankaj Chandra said legal action would be taken if a complaint was received from the family of the injured housewife.
