Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered measures for permanent housing for slum dwellers. Consequently, permanent living arrangements for the extremely poor will be implemented quickly. Dhaka North City Corporation and concerned ministries are working on this.
Mayor Atiqul Islam said this while addressing a function at Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan-2 in the capital on Sunday morning. The event was organized to provide funds for the dignity and protection of women in the Northern City Corporation’s ‘Improving the Living Standards of the Marginalized People’ project.
Atiqul Islam said that ensuring housing for the poor living in the city, strengthening community organizations and creating employment by increasing the skills of women is very important. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the planning and management of non-pro-poor cities. He further said that everyone must be careful so that the poor can live a good life. The task is impossible for the corporation alone. Various governmental and non-governmental organizations must come forward for this.
