Freshwater fish imports and exports to India through the Benapole land port in Jessore have increased. One of the reasons for the increase in exports is the high demand for freshwater fish, especially in India. However, its impact on the income of those involved in fish production is less. Marginal fish farmers are blaming the union for this.
In the last three months and in the first five months of the current financial year (July-November), around 16.2 million kg of fish were exported to India through the land port of Benapole. Its market value is approximately 5 crore 41 lakh US dollars. At the same time, fish worth £ 12.9 million were imported from India. The port authorities said the price of the fish is also low on the local market.
Speaking with officials from the Jessore District Fisheries Officer Office, Benapole Land Port, it became known that the demand for pabda and carp is high in India. Pabda, Tangra, Vhetki, Pangash, Ghazal and other freshwater fish are exported. Jessore is the largest producer of pabda fish in the country.
While exports are increasing every year, traders are talking to the two prisons of Chougachha and Jhikargachha upazilas to find out how much they are benefiting. Pabdar production is higher in these two upazilas.
