A court ordered the execution of 10 people in the murder case of Sonakania Union Parishad (UP) president Amjad Hossain in Chittagong’s Satkania upazila. Five have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Judge AKM Mozammel Haque Chowdhury of the Chittagong Rapid Trial Divisional Court delivered the verdict at noon on Sunday.
Those sentenced to death are the president of Satkania Sadar UP, Nizam Uddin. Manik, Md. Jahed, Md. Rashed, Md. Tareq, Zillur Rahman, Md. Rafiq, Fork Ahmed, Jasim Uddin, and Bashir Ahmed.
Morshed Alam, said the five sentenced to life imprisonment. Ayub, Maryland Idris, Maryland Aaron and Md. Idris Alam.
Four people have been acquitted in the verdict. They are Abu Taher, Abdul Malek, Khair Ahmed and Mostaq Ahmed.
All the defendants are from Satkania upazila.
Chittagong Divisional Rapid Trial Court Prosecutor. Ayub Khan told Prothom Alo that the court sentenced 10 people to death and fined them 50,000 taka, another five with life imprisonment and 50,000 taka and sentenced them to one more year in prison for non-payment. In addition, four defendants have been acquitted.
