A leader of the Awami League has been shot dead by criminals in the Sharifpur union of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. His name is Bahar Uddin (55). He is the president of the fifth district of the Awami League union. Another person was injured in the incident. The incident took place in front of the home of the Gafur member from Babunagar village in Sharifpur Upazila union around 6:30 pm on Saturday.
According to the police and local sources, the leader of the Awami League, Bahar Uddin, had a dispute with some people, including the local Faisal, on the day of the by-elections for the post of president of Begumganj Upazila Parishad last Thursday. As a result of the incident, a group of five or six criminals attacked Bahar with weapons last night. Bahar was shot in the right thigh and another was wounded in the attack. He was later rescued by the locals and admitted to Noakhali General Hospital.
Begumganj Police Officer-in-Charge (CO) Muhammad Kamruzzaman said he went to the hospital after receiving the news and saw the Awami League leader injured. He also visited the place. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving office. However, it is heard that the incident occurred due to internal disputes between the party and the area. Family complaints will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
